THOUSAND OAKS, Calif., Feb. 9, 2010 (AP) -- Amgen said its osteoporosis drug candidate denosumab beat a rival drug in reducing and delaying the rate of fractures in men with prostate cancer during a study. The drug, also called Prolia, is viewed by Wall Street as Amgen's next blockbuster product and a way to revive the company's revenue. It is under review by the Food and Drug Administration for several uses, including postmenopausal osteoporosis and as a treatment for bone loss in breast and prostate cancer patients undergoing therapy.

LONDON, Feb. 9, 2010 (AP) -- Britain's GlaxoSmithKline said today that it has begun consultations with workers on cutting jobs at a British research facility, an early step in its plans announced a week ago to shift its research focus. The company did not say how many jobs were involved, but Press Association, the British news agency, said it could be as many as 380 of the 1,150 workers at the facility.

NEW LONDON, Feb. 9, 2010 (THE DAY)--Pfizer is teaming up with San Francisco-based interactive-technology firm Keas Inc. to introduce an online prevention and wellness program, the company announced Monday. Pfizer said the idea is for consumers to adopt personalized online "care plans" to take charge of their own health. Some of the care plans are being authored by Pfizer itself, according to Keas.

Without the adjustments, John L. Lechleiter's total compensation would have been $15.9 million, an increase of about 9 percent, the company said.
